This system was designed to monitor the Speed, Length and Tension of
12 Anchor Winches on an offshore based drilling rig.
The system consisted of a Siemens Profinet
CPU with I/O and Remote I/O ET200M DAQ units on Profinet. Due to the large
distances between each DAQ system, fibre optic network switches were used for
the longer transmission distances.
Each of the 4 DAQ unit monitored 3 anchor winches [12 winches in
total], which consisted of 1 Brattvaag Winch and 2
National Winches. Each Brattvaag Winch had it own independant Siemens MP177 HMI which could also be used to
monitor any other winch, each National Winch pair also had it own independant
Siemens MP177 HMI which could also be used to monitor any other winch.
Two 15" MP377
HMI's were also used as an overview of the Winches and also to monitor a
number of Bulk Storage Tanks which were used to hold different raw materials.
the maintenance screens on the HMI's allowed calibration of the inputs and
Bulk Product selection.
Two Intrinsically Safe Beka display units
connected via Modbus were also used to monitor bulk tank levels in the
transfer unit.
